Control your test data - Danny R. Faught

StickyMinds.com is host to a very interesting article and discussion by Danny R. Vaught called Synthesize Your Test Data. In the article Danny reminds us that any proper testing effort requires the test team control their test data. They create test data that meets their test definitions not just look for existing data to fit, and they never skip tests because they can't find data to match.

But Danny needs to remember synthesizing your data cuts both ways, it allows you to fully test all your test conditions but you need to remember your data also needs to represent reality, with all the inconstancies and problems it may contain, otherwise when you go to production find conditions you never considered.
