Sounds like the problems NASA is having aboard the ISS is related to inadequate System Testing between the Russian Computers that steer the ISS and the American solar arrays. Evidently the Russian computers are known to be sensitive to electro-magnetic interference. "They did find that these were sensitive to this power noise and in fact, a couple of instances on the ground where activating compressors around the test stands would cause them to have upsets and shut themselves down," Mike Suffredini, NASA space station program manager, told ABC News in the article Russians: Possible 'Fatal Flaw' in Space Station
It seems NASA could use some good old fashioned system testing expertise as witnessed by this error and other recent NASA failures. It appears that the MBA’s at NASA are still interested primarily in getting the most “Bang for the Buck” and not making sure things “Just Work”. I’m glad I’m not flying on the space shuttle.
