Gartner: The 40-Hour Workweek Era Is Ending??

The Gartner Group, a well respected analyst of the Information Technology Industry has issued a report saying the 40-Hour Workweek Era is ending, and that the coming high demand for High Tech Workers will force employers to create more and more 20-Hour positions for its workers.

While I agree that with more demand for the fewer and fewer Information Technologists in the job market there will be more and more 20 per week job description.

I don't agree that we will be working fewer hours however. When I think back on the Year 2000 era, when my skills were at a premium, I found I was working a 40 hour job, plus at least one 20 hour job on the side.

The next time round, I see us working 2, 3 or 4 of these 20 hour gigs at the same time, because of the shortage of technical workers. And retirement, I don't see it in my future.
